LAS VEGAS (NV) January 11, 2002. The 2002 Winter Consumer Electronics show rolled into history at 12 noon local time. There were hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of attendees. Our roving reporter for Nat-Com is now back in Ohio completing the finishing touches of our special Internet version of reports from CES and Las Vegas.

By far, from what we have been able to determine the subject that brought the most interest to our readers and others who have happened across our site was the BC785D Trunk Tracking Digital Scanner. There will, of course, also be the BC285D hand held unit, but there were no mock ups to see at the show. Now all we need to do is wait for the finished products to come out towards the end of the year. There should be plenty of time to save for these rather expensive toys.

Obviously the CES show was more than just two scanner products. Uniden, for example is introducing over 40 new cordless phones as well as GMRS/FRS transceivers and wireless internet hubs. Cobra was showing new FRS and GMRS transceivers, GPS units and power inverters. There was even a display of the European version of FRS -- PMRS. Maxon, although not displaying at the Convention Center, was showing products in their suite at Balley's. There one could see a representation of FRS, CB, MURS and many other items.

National Communications will leave these five pages in place for the next several months for those who did not happen across them as the show was in progress. Feel free to use any of the photos we have provided -- they are being provided free of copyright. A mention of National Communictions would be appreciated.

Also, from Uniden, we will soon see their new Bearcat e-Scanner software which will make the programming of the BC780XLT and the two newer scanners not to mention the SC200, BC245XLT, BC895XLT and possibly the MR8100 much easier.

We hope you enjoyed our coverage from the CES show. If you do not get National Communications magazine, maybe you will consider a subscription. Information on the magazine is provided in a link below. We would also appreciate any feedback on this experiment -- would you like us to do it again or maybe from some other show or hamfest?

It is now time to put the lap top and digital camera away until the next time. Hope to hear from you.
