LAS VEGAS (NV) January 9, 2002. Uniden America Corporation is unveiling its e-scanner technology to make the programming of scanner radios a much simpler matter. The company plans to provide the free software in all new scanners manufactured and will also offer a "for sale" version offering many extra features over its web site.

The program will allow users to export frequencies from either the Betty Bearcat or Mr. Scanner CD roms or from lists provided from the bearcat1.com site on the internet. The source list can then be loaded by bank into a master file from which the customer can program the scanner.

Uniden's most complicated scanner, currently the BC780XLT, can be programmed with this software, including the frequencies, alpha tags and bank alpha tags. The customer simply picks from the source database those records he wants placed into his scanner by bank and channel location.

The software will also be available on the internet from the Uniden.com site in the near future. Therefore those who have Uniden scanners with data ports can simply download the software to program their scanner.

Taser International develops products for government and law enforcement officials. The Taser is probably better known as a stun gun. The weapon can quickly disable an aggressive opponent without causing serious harm.

We were able to wittness a demonstration of the Taser's effectiveness at this year's CES show. You can check out the photograph above to get a feel for the effectiveness of the weapon. We will have more information on the Taser in coming issues of National Communications magazine.

We were also able to visit the America On Line booth to check out their latest innovations. One of the newest features a Nokia 3390 cellular telephone which features AOL's instant messenger.

Now you will be able to keep in touch with friends all over the world via the internet with the touch of a few keys on this phone. Again, look for more information on this new feature from AOL in upcoming issues of National Communications.

Tomorrow we will have information on Maxon's new MURS radios and a new innovation in the FRS line -- a base station.

Be sure to stay tuned for more from Nat-Com on line from Las Vegas. We will have daily updates on this web page and in the Nat-Com Radio Forum.
