A Suggested Letter To Your Congressman

                  OPPOSE LEGISLATION THAT BANS SCANNERS

     * Congress is considering important scanner legislation.
     * The legislation originally introduced by Rep. Billy Tauzin (R-LA),
H.R. 2369, would have required scanner manufacturers to filter
out so many frequencies that scanners would be rendered very
        expensive and all but useless.
     * Similar legislation was introduced by Rep. Ed Markey (D-MA).
     * H.R. 2369 has been modified, and now addresses many of the scanner
community's concerns. As this bill goes through Congress we need
to be sure scanning rights are protected.
     * Please either use this letter or write one of your own (and e-mail,
fax, or regular mail) to your congressman. See members.htm for a
list of members e-mail, mail and fax numbers.
     * You can use our on-line system to e-mail members who have a listed
e-mail address, or copy the letter below and either fax it to their
fax number listed or mail it to their office address which will be
        listed.
Dear Congressman:
I am one of millions of Americans that use scanners for lawful and useful
purposes. I am writing about H.R. 2369, introduced by Rep. Billy Tauzin
(R-LA). As originally introduced, the legislation would have effectively
banned scanners. I understand that the legislation has been substantially
reworded by the Telecommunications Subcommittee and now addresses many of
the concerns of scanner users. As the bill moves through Congress, I ask
your support to ensure that the changes made by the Telecommunications
Subcommittee remain in effect so as to protect the legimitate use of
scanners by an estimated four million law abiding American citizens.
Sincerely,
