Oregon Scientific presents a special portable weather radio that can be
tuned using the new S.A.M.E. technology to receive broadcasts that affect
your local area only. It's ideal for traveling as well as for hikers,
campers and everyone who needs to be prepared in the great outdoors.
Using the new Specific Area Message Encoding (S.A.M.E.) technology,
tune your NOAA Weather Radio to receive official warnings, watches and
statements that affect your local area at home or away. Up to six counties
may be programmed for emergency alert activation.
NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts 24-hour local weather forecasts, weather
related travel conditions and warnings about imminent severe weather.
The National Weather Service radio system is operated by the National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), a division of the U.S.
Commerce Department.
The Emergency Alert System (EAS) provides the only network of national
and local government broadcasts for messages affecting public health and
safety. EAS broadcasts may include warnings about weather and technological
emergencies, including tornadoes, hurricanes and earthquakes, toxic chemical
spills, radiation emergencies, explosions and fires, and other disasters
that require immediate public notification.
This All Hazards Alert Radio can be set to automatically activate and
receive emergency weather or public safety announcements from the EAS
system and NOAA Weather Radio. A standby mode silences the speaker until an
emergency message triggers the Alert System, which includes a loud warning
tone, a red alert signal and an alert message on the LCD display.
